Visions of sun-drenched white-sand beaches permeate thoughts of Florida for the millions that flock to the state each year for vacation. For many, the perception of Florida is a concrete jungle with busy theme parks, congested freeways and beaches. However, you can still experience the Florida of yesteryear in Florida’s “Nature Coast” destination – complete with world-class golf courses and award-winning accommodations.
Florida’s Nature Coast, rimmed by wild, undeveloped, and pristine coastline, stretches from just north of Tampa/Clearwater to the Florida Panhandle. In 1867, World famous naturalist John Muir described the Nature Coast as “a string of counties studded with emerald-like gulf waters, deep springs and rivers, stretching along the same Florida coast.” Today, the immediate area just north of Tampa/Clearwater features two unique qualities - it remains one of the last unspoiled natural regions of Florida, plus offers golfers and families many affordable activities and adventures. There are over 30 golf courses along “The Trail”, natural, crystal-clear springs for swimming/snorkeling/diving, water-sport activities, fresh/salt water fishing, pristine beaches and nature park exploration. The pristine, warm spring waters are not only enticing to visitors, but are also home to the largest winter manatee population in North America. This region is the only place in North America where humans can legally swim alongside the manatee.
Golf Zoo customers can choose accommodations along the Florida Nature Coast Golf Trail in Crystal River, Inverness, Brooksville, Dade City, or Tampa and still be within minutes or within a short drive to some of the most highly-rated golf courses in the state of Florida. Golf courses include: Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks at World Woods, Juliette Falls Club, Southern Hills Plantation, The Dunes Golf Club, Silverthorne, Hernando Oaks and The Plantation Resort.

This phenomenal course opened in 2006 and has been named by GolfWeek as "One of the Top 50 New Courses in the U.S.", and "One of the Top 100 Residential Courses in the U.S.". World Woods Golf Club - Pine Barrens
The Pine Barrens Course at World Woods Golf Club is currently ranked in the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." (#74) by Golf Magazine and is a visually stunning blend of native terrain and golf course design. The Tom Fazio- designed masterpiece is sculpted from an expansive pine forest and barren sandhills with surprising and dramatic changes in elevation. The large manicured fairways framed by tall pines and expansive untamed waste bunkering have challenged amateurs and professionals alike. Playing to a total length of 7,250 yards, the par-71 course features four sets of tees and requires some waste area carries, as well as precise shot placement that can be well rewarded. The Pine Barrens layout and sytle-of-play can be characterized by the 330 yard par-4 15th hole, where precise shot-making and "go for it" decisions will continuously challenge players. On this particular hole, a single group recorded scores of 1,2,3,4! The layout and style of Pine Barrens has often been compared to Pine Valley in New Jersey - perennially ranked the best golf course in America. Pine Barrens has been awarded Golf Digest's 5-Star Rating, which is defined as "Golf at its Absolute Best", joining elite public courses such as Pebble Beach Golf Links, Bethpage Black, Kiawah Island Ocean Course and Whistling Straits (The Straits) as courses that have achieved this coveted rating. To round out the World Woods golf experience, guests can warm-up, or hone skills at the nationally-ranked practice facility. Fazio created a rare opportunity for golfers by designing the practice facility, complete with a 22-acre circular range, chipping area, 2-acre putting green, three practice holes and a 9-hole short course.
Championship Course at The Plantation
The Plantation on Crystal River course was designed by Mark Mahanah 47 years ago with one thought in mind - to provide a challenging and rewarding playing experience for all in the traditional "Florida style. " Plenty of water and numerous bunkers cradled on a soft carpet of lush green fairway and sheltered by grand oaks and pines. Our course has hosted many great PGA and LPGA professionals over the years and is a frequent site of Florida championships. Legendary Tommy Bolt was a fixture at the Plantation in the 1950s and `60s. The course features water on 21 holes, sloped greens and a variety of challenging fairways lined with native life oak trees and emerald pines. You can combine our three nines to suit your game - choose from our short course "the Lagoons" or our Championship layout. These courses are always masterfully manicured and provide a traditional blend of Florida golf at its best.
Lake Jovita Golf Club - North Course
The Lake Jovita Golf Club championship courses are acclaimed as tour quality. The 263-acre North course is every essence of the worthy compliment. A little more contemporary in style, the North course has even greater elevation changes than the South; providing golfers with positively incredible views of the scenic community. The North Course continues the tradition of the South Course in terms of elevation changes that are contrary to most Florida courses. In fact, from the second tee box, players have a panoramic view of the Florida countryside - five or six miles to the northeast. Playing from a length of 7,226 yards from the back tees, the north course also features three other sets of tees to create the right challenge for players of all levels. Amenities include a world-class practice facility, complete putting green, chipping green and separate teaching tees.
