Imagine a warmly-lit room paneled in walnut, the crisp white tablecloths absorbing the gleam of the copper bar. The aromas filling the room are reminiscent of Italy and the Mediterranean: simple Venetian fish dishes, Tuscan roasts, Moroccan tagines and flavors from throughout the Mediterranean basin. This is Bottega Restaurant.

Trowbridge’s Ice Cream & Sandwich Shop
Talk about love at first sight! In 1917 Paul Trowbridge stopped in Florence on his way to a dairy convention in North Carolina. He liked the area so much that he returned to Texas, packed his possessions and moved his family to Florence. He opened the Trowbridge Creamery in 1918 and developed the recipe for orange pineapple ice cream. Later hot dogs and homemade chili were added to the menu. Today, customers can still enjoy ice cream and sandwiches offered by the third generation of Trowbridges.

Considered the cornerstone of the Cullman community, the All Steak restaurant is described by the Birmingham News as “the place where ‘half of Cullman’ comes to talk about politics and football.” Its origin dates back to 1934 when it was founded in Tennessee by Millard Buchhmann. The original name was to have been “All Steak Hamburgers,” but when the sign was made, Millard did not have the money to add the word “Hamburgers” to it. In 1938, he moved the business to Cullman. Since then, the restaurant has changed owners and locations a few more time, landing in 1998 at the top of the Cullman Savings Bank building. Over the years, however, the sign, the service and the food have remained the same. People from far and near enjoy the prime ribs, seafood and other culinary delights, but it’s their signature orange rolls that keep them coming back.

For more than six decades, Wintzell’s Oyster House has been a landmark in historic downtown Mobile. Known far and wide for its “Oyster fried, stewed or nude,” Winzell’s was founded in 1938 by Oliver Wintzell. Through economic boom and bust, it has continuously survived at its original location on Lower Dauphin Street. Although the family sold the restaurant in the 1970s, the original interior with its walls covered with Oliver's homespun sayings, are still intact today. Selections from his sayings are randomly displayed throughout this site. Famous for fresh Gulf seafood, Wintzell's was named in Willard Scott's All-American Cookbook for the Best Oysters and Crabs.
