Canoeing and Kayaking
The glacier-fed waters of Bow River provide the perfect spots for canoeing and kayaking. Visitors can choose to paddle in any of the three sections of the Bow River: Lake Louise to Castle Junction, Castle junction to Banff, and Bow Falls to Canmore. Banff National park offers not only the activity. It allows you to do it with the breathtaking view of the Rockies to make every effort worth it!

Hiking
If you’re a hiking buff, the closest you could get to a hiking trail within Banff town is the Cave and Basin to Sundance Canyon trail. It is estimated half day trips with an elevation gain of 145 meters and a maximum elevation of 1545 m. Other trails outside Banff town include Aylmer Pass and Johnston Canyon Trail.

Camping
Banff is probably Canada’s Mecca of outdoor lovers. It has 13 campgrounds that are suited for tent, trailer, and RV camping trips. There are over 2400 sites for camping during peak season. Some of the most famous sites are the Jack Campgrounds, Castle Mountain Campground, Protection Mountain and Mosquito Creek Campgrounds.

Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding
Banff National Park does not want to just be a summer fling! In the winter, the cascading Rockies provide some of the most superb skiing slopes (and one of the longest) in North America. Mt. Norquay, The Lake Louise Ski Area, and the Sunshine Village resorts combine for a whooping 8000 acres of skiable terrain. That’s an entire winter love affair for every ski- and snowboarding lover!

The rides are available daily, every hour on the hour from 10am to 8pm, seven times a week depending on weather and snow conditions.

Horse-drawn Sleigh Rides
It’s a medley of Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bells with the Horse-drawn sleigh rides offered during Banff winters. Ride along the frozen Bow River, the surrounding mountains, and snow-filled forests for 45 minutes in a picturesque straight-out-of-a-storybook scene. Lovers may also opt for an extra-romantic sleigh-ride for two with special trips to the local patisserie while cuddling in authentic buffalo robe. Now who wouldn’t wish for mistletoe at that?

Gondolas
Banff has all-season year-round available offerings for the Great outdoorsman. Get a bird’s eye view of the Canadian Rockies sitting in gondolas that are going to take you to an 8-minute ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain. At the mountain’s summit are an observation deck, a restaurant and a gift shop.

Banff Upper Hot Springs
Another year round feature of the Banff National Park is the historic Upper Hot Springs. The use of the spring as a bath house dates to more than a century. Soothe your sore and aching muscles from all those outdoor activities with the natural hot pools, or get a massage at the many spas surrounding it while basking in the beauty of the Canadian Rockies.
